Beers, Wines & Spirits for Every Holiday Occasion
When it comes to festive gatherings, there’s no busier month than December.
The big question is always, “What to drink?” But with so many options available on liquor store shelves, it’s not always easy to decide on which bottle to bring.
To keep uncertainty to a minimum this holiday season, take our advice and make sure you’ve stocked up on the essentials for every occasion in advance of the holiday rush.
The Office Party
There are many ways to make an impression on your co-workers at the annual holiday party, but your common six-pack probably isn’t one of them. That doesn’t mean beer isn’t an option, however. Festive winter ales like Sierra Nevada Celebration Ale, Sam Adams Winter Lager or White Christmas, and Deschutes Jubelale add more cheer than the average beer.
Buying for your boss? Show gratitude for that Christmas bonus by treating your superior’s palate to a bottle of bourbon. Bulleit, Benchmark, Knob Creek, Maker’s Mark or Woodford Reserve are all gift-worthy options.
Did you know that alcohol may make you feel warmer, but it actually lowers your body temperature?
Rather than drink your way through a chilly night of caroling, enjoy a Fireball Whisky nightcap when you get home. While the heat may be all in your head, the delicious cinnamon flavor definitely isn’t.
Building a Gingerbread House
The only holiday task more enjoyable than building a gingerbread house is eating one. Resist breaking off that piece of roof with the sweet substitute of a Baileys-infused coffee or eggnog cocktail, Evan Williams Egg Nog or a fruit-forward wine, like Cupcake Red Velvet.
Whether you’d rather gather with friends to watch movies or sports, we suggest you come armed with plenty of beer. And it wouldn’t be a holiday movie marathon without A Christmas Story and Great Lakes Brewing Christmas Ale, two festive essentials from the same city: Cleveland. For the less traditional, vacation-set Christmas Vacation 2, starring Randy Quaid, we suggest the tropical taste of RumChata or a Tito’s Vodka infused concoction – you’ll find plenty of sunny-climes cocktail inspiration here.
Ugly Sweater Party
The holiday season is a time for family, friends… and really ugly sweaters. Parties commemorating the worst in holiday fashion are becoming increasingly common, but you can class them up with a good bottle of red from California wineries like Edna Valley Vineyard or Kendall-Jackson. The color is festive and your ugly sweater should have no trouble enduring a few unforeseen spills.
If you’re getting together with friends to wrap gifts, don’t forget to bring a few bottles along — for both sipping and wrapping. To inspire some entertaining guesswork, give the gift of a unique bottle with Grand Marnier, Larceny Bourbon, Angel’s Envy Bourbon or Patrón Silver Tequila. To really get in the spirit, bring along some extra bottles so you and your friends can drink what you wrap.
Don't forget to sign up for the Celebration Members Club to get advance notice of the best wine, beer, and spirits for every occasion.
